Jewelry Care

  • All electroformed pieces are made with 100% copper. No matter the finish (bright, antiqued, or gunmetal black) they are still copper.
  • Every piece is sealed with a product called Protectaclear, however this is NOT a permanent solution. If you notice that your finger is becoming discolored (green skin is annoying, but ultimately harmless unless allergic), the bright copper finish is tarnishing or the gunmetal finish is fading, it is likely that the sealant is wearing off. One quick fix is painting the inside of the ring with a clear coat of nail polish but if the gunmetal finish is wearing off I would be more than happy to refinish and seal it for you. Following the next steps below will help prevent this from happening though.
  • Water is metal’s arch nemesis! Remove jewelry before bathing, showering, swimming, washing hands, etc. Prolonged/repeated contact with water or chemicals (soap, lotion, perfumes etc) may cause oxidation of the metal and/or discoloration of gunmetal finishes. AND some crystals/stones are not suited for water and may begin to wear away or begin to dull with repeated exposure. Keep it dry!
  • Put on your jewelry last to avoid contact with perfumes, hairspray, etc.
  • Take off your jewelry before sleeping, especially if it has a chain.
  • Take off your jewelry if you will be working around chemicals or heavy machinery that can snag/repeatedly bump your piece.
  • Know what stones you're wearing! Some stones are soft and don’t do well with moisture.
  • If you wear a ring next to your electroformed ring, the metal rubbing against metal will remove the sealant and/or patina, very quickly.
  • Keep in mind that designs with exposed crystal points are at risk of cracking when dropped or bumped and extra care should be taken to avoid this.
  • Avoid storage in direct sunlight. Several stones commonly found in jewelry such as amethyst, rose quartz, aquamarine, citrine, kunzite, and fluorite are known to fade in direct sunlight.
  • Avoid bending/excessive force. Electroforming makes pieces a bit more brittle than your average piece of copper jewelry. Adjustable rings and bracelets should be adjusted slowly and no more than 1 or 2 sizes.
